Testing & Transparency

At Peak State Coffee, we believe clean coffee should be backed by real testing β€” not just marketing claims.

That’s why our coffee and mushroom ingredients are tested for key quality and safety markers, including mold, mycotoxins, heavy metals, and mushroom beta-glucans.

The PDF below includes our full Testing & Transparency Report, along with the original raw lab reports at the bottom of the document. Below the PDF, you’ll also find a plain-English summary of what we tested, what the results showed, and why each area matters for the coffee you drink every day.

Testing Summary

The PDF above includes Peak State Coffee’s full Testing & Transparency Report, including the original raw lab reports. Below is a plain-English summary of the key testing areas: mold and mycotoxins, heavy metals, acrylamide, and mushroom beta-glucans.

Mold & Mycotoxins Testing

Peak State coffees were tested by Eurofins Microbiology Laboratory for a panel of common mycotoxins, including aflatoxins, ochratoxin A, deoxynivalenol, fumonisins, HT-2 toxin, T-2 toxin, and zearalenone. The coffees were also tested for yeast and mold levels.

In the tested samples, the listed mycotoxins were reported below the lab’s reporting limits. Yeast and molds were also reported at less than 10 cfu/g.

In plain English, this means the lab did not find reportable levels of the tested mycotoxins in the coffee samples, and yeast/mold results were very low based on the lab’s reported results.

Heavy Metals Testing

Peak State coffee beans were tested by Eurofins for four heavy metals: arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury.

The test results reported arsenic and mercury below the lab’s reporting limits. Cadmium and lead were detected, but both were reported below 10 ppb.

In plain English, the tested coffee beans were under the 10 ppb threshold referenced in our report for cadmium and lead, while arsenic and mercury were not detected above the lab’s reporting limits.

Acrylamide Note

Acrylamide is not a heavy metal, mold, or mycotoxin. It is a compound that can naturally form when coffee beans are roasted.

Acrylamide is included in our Testing & Transparency Report only because it was included in the original Eurofins testing. We include it for transparency, but it should not be confused with our mold, mycotoxin, or heavy metals testing.

Mushroom Beta-Glucan Testing

Peak State Coffee uses mushroom extracts from MycoLove. MycoLove’s ALC tincture/extract sample was tested by Tryptomics for alpha-glucans, beta-glucans, and total glucans.

Beta-glucans are naturally occurring compounds found in medicinal mushrooms. They are one of the key compounds people look for in mushroom products because they are commonly associated with immune-supporting properties and are often used as a marker of mushroom extract quality.

Alpha-glucans are also measured because they can help provide additional context about the composition of a mushroom product. Looking at both alpha-glucans and beta-glucans gives a clearer picture than looking at total glucans alone.

In the MycoLove ALC sample, Tryptomics reported beta-glucans at 0.76 Β± 0.30 weight %, or 0.23 Β± 0.09 g/serving, and alpha-glucans at 0.06 Β± 0.00 weight %, or 0.02 Β± 0.00 g/serving.

Why This Testing Matters

Coffee is something many people drink every day, so we believe customers should be able to easily understand what is in their cup. Testing helps verify that our coffees are screened for important quality and safety markers, while the original lab reports provide the backup for anyone who wants to review the details directly.

Our goal is not to make vague claims about being β€œclean.” Our goal is to show the actual testing behind our products in a format that is clear, accurate, and easy to understand.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Peak State Coffee test for mold?

Yes. Peak State coffees were tested for yeast, molds, and a panel of common mycotoxins. The tested mycotoxins were reported below the lab’s reporting limits, and yeast and molds were reported at less than 10 cfu/g.

Does β€œbelow the reporting limit” mean zero?

Not exactly. β€œBelow the reporting limit” means the lab did not detect the substance at a level high enough to reliably report or quantify based on that test method. It is more accurate than saying β€œzero.”

Does Peak State Coffee test for heavy metals?

Yes. Peak State coffee beans were tested for arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury. Arsenic and mercury were reported below the lab’s reporting limits, while cadmium and lead were detected below 10 ppb.

Why is acrylamide included in the report?

Acrylamide is included because it appeared in the original Eurofins test report. It is not a heavy metal, mold, or mycotoxin. Acrylamide can naturally form during coffee roasting, so we include the result for transparency while keeping the main focus of this page on mold, mycotoxins, heavy metals, and mushroom beta-glucans.

What are beta-glucans?

Beta-glucans are compounds found in medicinal mushrooms and are commonly used as a marker of mushroom extract quality. They are often associated with immune-supporting properties, which is one reason we include beta-glucan testing in our transparency report.

Can I see the original lab reports?

Yes. The original raw lab reports are included at the bottom of the Testing & Transparency PDF above.
